What is EFFIE?

Effie is an abbreviation of the word “effectiveness” and denotes a competition for the most effective advertising campaigns. In the Effie Awards competition, the jury judges entries according to the results of the campaigns evaluating their performances with regard to their objectives and cost. Creativity is taken into consideration in broader sense and valued are the inspirational strategic approach and innovative communication mix as well as the sense of purpose with which creative work serves the stipulated strategy.

The Effie competition goes beyond the borders of advertising and traditional media, because modern marketing combines various communications disciplines and utilizes new media. According to an international advertising survey , the Effie Awards are the most prestigious competition in the area of commercial communications. They take place in more than 30 countries around the world and have two multinational formats: the Euro Effie, where the condition for entering a campaign is that it must have been used in at least two European countries, and the Global Effie, where at least six countries around the world are required.

In the Czech Republic, the first Effie Awards were organized in 1997, when the AKA gained a license from the U.S. company AMA N.Y. In the opening year of the competition, 23 advertising campaigns competed. A total of 85 campaigns were entered in the twelfth year of the competition in 2008, which was held under the aegis of the Czech industry and trade minister, and the awards ceremony was attended by over 300 representatives of leading firms and agencies, as well as representatives of the media and personalities from the political and financial spheresYou can find out more about the Effies and see the winning campaigns at www.effie.cz.
